Meet the Yankee Belle

Hi! My name is Kim and I started blogging years ago as an angst-filled teenager. Since that time, thankfully, a lot has changed; most notably my zip code and my heart.

I was born and raised in Central New York-the real "upstate". I was a Yankee. After 18 years in the same city, I decided to pursue my undergraduate degree in Western Massachusetts with a short, summer hiatus in London, England. Soon after college I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. I started saying "hey ya'll" and ordering sweet tea. I said "yes, ma'am" and discovered BBQ to be a food item rather than a social gathering or grilling appliance. I became a Southerner.

This transformation came with a heart change. I was raised in the church, but wandered from it during my teenage years. Life hit me with an onslaught of grief and pain, and this distance from the Lord continued through college. But God didn't give up on me. After all, He placed me smack dab in the middle of the Bible belt! God was everywhere and His grace became impossible to ignore. Then, one Sunday morning, I went running back into my Savior's arms.

The title of this small space on the big web is reflective of that heart change that took place when I became a "Yankee Belle".

Why blog?

I have always been a passionate reader. Over time, my love for reading evolved into a love for writing. I believe there is power in a person's story; power that can encourage, inspire, heal, and remind a reader that she is not alone. I have experienced this on countless occasions and strive to provide the same joy to readers by chronicling-ever so vulnerably-my story as I live, love, learn, and grow.
